You mentioned you like to use a live drummer in the studio. I use Toontrack's DFH EZ drummer software, but will eventually use a real drummer. Not sure if it's better to buy to use an electronic kit such as Roland V drums add to my home studio or pay a studio technician to mike up my drummer.

Do you have any experience of Drum modules? i've heard that it's cheaper and easier to get a good sound from a good module such as Superior Drummer or BFD than to mike an accoustic kit (neighbours call the cops!) at home. what are your opinions of this?

Hi chris,
as you ask about my setup, it's Mainly digital modelling at the moment, a combination of Roland and Line 6 and Beringer stuff (I'd love to I mike up my marshall, but the neighbours would call the cops!).

I play mostly Ibanez S series guitars fitted with seymour duncan pickups (JB, duncan custom) lots of gain but I can still clean up the volume, like a lot of those classisc rock guitarists such as Page or Van Halen.

Cubase is my DAW of choice, and I use a few plugins & hardware. Aturias soft synth replica of the Roland Jupiter V8 is good for those 80's sci-fi sounds, I also use a humble yamaha keyboard for string sounds and pianos.
I have a lexicon unit I like to use for my effects and reverb in mix down.

I'm pretty pleased with the results, I'm still building and adding stuff to my studio. Looking at some good mastering software such as T-Racks for my next purchase.

What about you? what do you like using? are your tracks completly self produced or do you pay out for studio time?

Hey Chris, tracks sound good!

What distribution are you planning for your solo release? just asking as I have an albums worth of stuff similar to what you do (but more synth/ambient influence) that I am looking at relaesing on CD Baby. Just comparing notes with other guitarists/muso's really.

What's it like teaching primary school for dayjob? I teach some younger kids about 7 or 8 years old but most of my students are older teens and adult.
